Micro Thin Film Dressing

Transparent micro-thin film dressings—we sell Tegaderm®—are waterproof, breathable membranes that work well to protect partial-thickness burns, abrasions, and clean, full-thickness wounds, especially in a wet environment where other types of dressings quickly become useless. Think paddling, rain, and snow. Make sure the skin surrounding the wound is clean and dry; use Tincture of Benzoin to increase adhesion. Properly applied (watch the video), the dressing can remain in place for days and you can watch the wound heal through the dressing. In most cases, there is no need to apply gauze or an ointment under the dressing. If you do apply gauze, saturate it with a petroleum-based ointment; ensure there is at least a half-inch of exposed skin for the dressing to adhere to; use Tincture of Benzoin to help the dressing adhere better. The dressing may be applied over steri-strips. The small dressings, 2.3 x 2.75 inches, fit into the slash pockets inside all our packs; the large dressings, 4 x 4.75 inches, do not fit into the Minimalist Pack.
